Our Six Favorite Santa Fe Theaters

Santa Fe, New Mexico, the City Different, offers a wide variety of performance venues. Many are located downtown and are within walking distance to Casa de Tres Lunas | House of Three Moons Inn. Your choices range from mainstream cinema to art film, community theater to symphonies, opera to mariachi. Here are our favorites.

An anchor in the Santa Fe Railyard, this theater offers the latest movies in a hip space that includes a bar, restaurant and patio. Enjoy craft beer, burgers, wood oven pizza. Stock up on popcorn and Milk Duds too.

The Center for Creative Art is a contemporary space hosting national & regional artists of dance, music, art, theater & more. This compound is located behind the Armory for the Arts on Old Santa Fe Trail, less than two miles from the Plaza. The Cinematheque and The Screen are separate theaters that show foreign films, innovative films and other creative works.

The Santa Fe Playhouse offers a venue for local theater. Their mission, from their website, states:

"Unafraid to provoke and challenge, The Santa Fe Playhouse creates and produces professional theater that entertains, inspires, and starts a conversation. We approach our second century committed to growth and in service to our local and national communities. The Santa Fe Playhouse will advance our legacy as the foundation of the Santa Fe theater community—always raising our quality of work, to not only sustain our creative enterprise, but to also empower all local theater artists."

The Lensic is Santa Fe’s year-round, home for the performing arts, offering a variety of performance, education, and community programs to enrich the lives of everyone.

Another art film venue, the Jean Cocteau is owned by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. This theater is located down the block from the Violet Crown and is literally where the railroad tracks end. In addition to movies, the Jean Cocteau also hosts art shows, author readings and everything Game of Thrones.
